Rape Crisis Helplines

About No Blame No Shame

No Blame No Shame is an art project/awareness campaign that aims to de-stigmatize victims of rape, sexual assault, domestic violence and stalking/harassment.

It will aim to do that most difficult of things, change peoples minds. With 36% of people in the UK believing that a rape victim is partly or wholly responsible for their attack if they are drunk attitudes need to change, otherwise victims will continue to be blamed and sex offenders will continue to go free.

The project will comprise of 3 videos, each looking at victim blaming from a different angle, and dispelling the myths of victim responsibility. Using a combination of stylistic techniques as well as statistics these will shed light on the reality of a situation facing over 100,000 people in the UK every single year.

The videos will then be launched at a live streamed performance event in Cardiff which will combine music, poetry and drama as well as the premiere screenings of the videos before they are put on YouTube where they will be forwarded both by the project and the various charities that have been so kindly and passionately supporting it. Using social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter the message of No Blame No Shame will be sent through out the world.

In addition to this the website will provide links to various organizations and provide suggestions to positive actions that people can take to help improve the situation, whether it’s writing to their political representative, volunteering for a helpline, fundraising for a crisis centre, or becoming more educated so they can help a friend or themselves through a crisis situation.

With the rates of reported rapes increasing and the conviction rate continuously dropping it is time to take action and stop this increasing culture of victim blaming, further violating the rights and trust of people who have already been through so much. This isn't about Women Vs Men, it's about Justice Vs Injustice. It is time to show that there is No Blame No Shame.
